Our History
For more than a decade, the Los Angeles Chinese Orchestra (formerly known as Chinese Classical Music Ensemble)'s performance of Chinese classical and original repertoires on Chinese and Western instruments has been featured in numerous concerts and soundtracks such as performances at Disney Concert Hall, with Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony and Jackie Chan movies. In the past two years, this group's performance credits include concerts with Long Beach Opera and Bakersfield Symphony's Decathlon Concert for 2,500 high school students from all the central and southern California. The group's performances at LA Music Center at 2002 and 2005 Holiday Celebrations were selected by PBS to broadcast nationally. In 2005 and 2006, this group not only toured to Vermont to give concerts, but also performed in the soundtracks of "Jade Empire"(X-Box video game) and film "16 Blocks". In 2007, Disney invited this group to record soundtrack for Hong Kong Disneyland “Small World”. Cooperated with Los Angeles Unified School District, this group has presented "Splendor of China" education programs in many schools and outreached thousands of young audience. This group provides very valuable venues for both of the professional musicians and the public to promote cross-cultural understanding. In order to get a more professional development and more funding sources, the Chinese Classical Music Ensemble is incorporated and renamed as "Los Angeles Chinese Orchestra", and got its non-profit 501(c)(3) status in 2007. In future, Los Angeles Chinese Orchestra plans to bring more excellent performing artists and programs to the community.
